A hilly-mountainous area north of Prato, rich in floral and mineralogical charm. There are many floral species to be discovered, even if hidden, sheltered from the wind and heat, and splendid fauna: grey herons, deer, roe deer, kingfishers, wild boars, are just some of the animals that populate these areas. On the hills of Monteferrato, it is also possible to find the presence of numerous abandoned serpentine quarries, the “green marble” so used in Tuscan churches.
From the Schignano visitor center (one of the three accesses to the area, the closest to Podere Castiglioncello), it is possible to take one of the paths that descend to the valley floor, and then climb up to the top of Monte Javello, crossing places of great interest both for the landscapes and nature that characterize them, and for the historical peculiarities.
